About Us
We believe that quality healthcare benefits everyone. CHC offers hope for a better quality of life for the individuals and families we serve.
Our Founder

Our Founder, Mary Nelle Cummins
A Brief History of CHC
CHC of Collin County opened its doors in August 2004 as the result of a dream and vision of founder Mary Nelle Cummins to open a clinic for the medically underserved. CHC first opened as a volunteer-run operation two nights a week, one for children and one for adults. With support from partners, the community, and churches, CHC expanded services and hours and has served thousands of patients over the years.
In 2020, CHC relocated from the old Wysong building to a medical office suite on the main Medical City McKinney campus. CHC currently offers a medical home to about 750 people in Collin County, who are uninsured adults living with chronic disease. We rely heavily on volunteers to realize our mission, with over 30 medical and administrative volunteers committed to sharing their time and expertise to improve our patients’ lives.
In March 2023, CHC entered a strategic alliance with Catholic Charities Dallas (CCD) to increase the clinic’s reach and impact throughout Collin County and beyond. With a common legacy of serving and empowering the most vulnerable members of the communities in which they work, CHC and CCD are well-positioned to combine resources and offer more people the benefits of a secure medical home – good health, dignity and self-sufficiency. The clinic’s McKinney location remains the same, but over time will expand both hours and service offerings. The long-term vision of the alliance is to expand clinic locations and services within Collin County and beyond, as well as offer CHC patients additional support through CCD programs, including basic needs assistance, educational programs, and legal aid.

We Are Physicians Who Care
Through our partnerships, patients receive in-kind donations of lab work, imaging services, and medication as part of their overall treatment. Our volunteer medical staff is made up of Family Practice, Internists, Cardiologists, a Rheumatologist, a Gastroenterologist, a Pediatric Orthopedic, Nurse Practitioners, Gynecologists, and Registered Nurses. Through our network of partners, we are able to refer patients to other specialists as well.
Other in-kind donations are valued at $827,892.
Experience and Professionalism
Our office is staffed with volunteer translators and office personnel that run the day-to-day activities of the clinic. Last year our volunteer staff donated more than 10,000 hours of volunteer service, and we are grateful for their dedication and commitment to helping the medically under-served in the community. CHC provides an essential public service to the health and welfare of the community by serving as a medical home to those families who would otherwise fall through the cracks of the healthcare system.
